National Cashew Day

Updated: Jan 25, 2021

National Cashew Day

Oooh one of my favourite nuts of all time. These beautiful little nuts are an incredible health boost.

They first originated from Brazil where they are grown on trees. They are now used widely to get essential fatty acids into your system. They are one of the good fats which contain heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, including oleic and palmitoleic acids. They also help to decrease cardiovascular disease. They are full of antioxidant's and help with your immune system.

Cashews also contain a lot of Protein and this is one of three macronutrients your body uses for energy, and it is particularly important for rebuilding muscle tissue and creating new cellular compounds. Plus, eating protein prevents you from getting hungry between meals, which can help you stick to a healthy eating plan.

Each ounce of cashews (about 16 to 18 nuts) contains 160 calories, 5 grams of protein, and 13 grams of fat (most of it heart-healthy monounsaturated fats) So an all round good little nut.

Eating cashews can be used as a snack as having a handful of nuts or as a nut butter on toast or used with apple and cashew butter smeared onto each apple slice. That's certainly one of my favourites. My other favourite is adding a spoonful into porridge as this gives a huge protein boost as well as carbs from the porridge oats for a slow releasing energy boost.
